GeneticallyCommodified
I’m interested in the environmental ramifications of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). My multimedia project, Genetically Commodified, explores the consequences of introducing GMOs into our food supply and local plant ecologies. Through efforts like alternative food economies (CSAs, farmer’s markets) and food-labeling ballot initiatives (CA Prop 37) familiarity with issues affecting our industrial food chain is steadily increasing. Unfortunately awareness of GMOs throughout our country still remains low.

I’ve spent the past 3 years developing Genetically Commodified as an artistic platform for engaging the public’s imagination about GMOs. Genetically Commodified works across mediums (drawing, installation, sound) to create an integrated environment where the audience can engage and reflect on the influence of GMOs. By examining this controversial issue within an arts context, I aim to expand viewer's ideas about GMOs while also contributing to the ongoing public discourse.
